Completion of Christ's Punishment

When Jesus was on the cross, he cried out “Father, why have you forsaken me?” This was part of His punishment for our sins. God guided Him until this point, but God had to depart from Him because God cannot exist with sin.

To complete Christ’s punishment (for our sins) God had to leave Jesus’ side.

Upon death Christ was sent to Sheol (the land of the dead) - to redeem those before Him and claim victory over death.
