“Daisy’s finally opening up after a long night by her pansy friend’s side. Her friend, the pansy, is actually pretty resilient – even if she wasn’t, she has a lot of ‘diversely colored’ relatives – so she’s looking pretty good right about now.”
It’s finally Spring, so things are ‘live’ around East Texas. The flowers are loud, and the soil goes by ‘Paydirt’ now because it’s rich. Even though Paydirt provides the
beauties with what they need every year, there’s someone who supervises the whole, dirty operation; the one with the green thumb – ‘the Provider.’

“The Provider displaces the pansy family every year because they quit showing their colors after a while, which is unfair because the provider doesn’t see "her daisy" closing herself up every evening while pansy pushes out the work night after sultry night."
Both daisies and pansies are perennial flowers that are common to the ETX area. Oftentimes pansies are treated like annuals and dug up every year to be replaced the next, but pansies, as perennials, survive through winter (given reasonable conditions) and will bloom year after year.
Daisies close their petals at night to camouflage themselves from herbivores.
Ironically, the daisies petals are also consumable - and high in vitamin C.

“Distant from the daisy and the pansy family, azalea - the oldest one in our little, personal Garden of Eden. Azalea’s neighbor, the rose, could be the same age. Our pretty rose has been climbing the provider’s fence for years, while the amicable azalea has exponentially grown – complacent.
I think they’re a complimentary pair.”

Climbing rose bushes are often used as a backdrop, and like the azalea bushes, they often skirt the perimeter of gardens and homes. Climbing roses are less “fussy” than their bush-like counterparts. Both azaleas and rose bushes are perennials that can live for over 50 years.

“The quiet one in the pot is geranium. The provider keeps him near the door.
He must be tough because I don't see the bugs come anywhere near him..."
Along with being edible, geraniums are often kept on balconies, terraces, porches and patios due to their ability to repel wasps and mosquitoes. Geraniums are noteworthy for being a hardy perennial that requires little maintenance.
"Myself, personally, look great where I am. I see things from a different perspective; through the glass on one of the provider’s very own sills."
"Speaking of the provider, I see her coming to change my water now!"

The lily has been given in bouquets throughout history to symbolize many things.
The Asiatic is an orange variant of the lily perennial. The lily can bloom for nearly ten consecutive years.
"Honey, thank you, but I'm gonna go ahead and throw these out!"
When looked after properly, lilies have a vase life of around 10-14 days.
